From 6:56am to 12:01pm there were 4 feedings of 5 nestlings. MK has been a good provider and protector and at 10:55am MK was in nest box cleaning the 5 nestlings. From 12:42pm to 7:02pm FK fed 5 nestlings five times and took leftovers out of the box a few times, FK on H.M.K.T. and gone from view several times with MK close by on H.M.K.T. or KP pole, MK made a couple of food (vole and bird) delivers on H.M.K.T. and at 6:56pm was in nest box briefly looking at nestlings. From 7:07pm to 9:18pm MK makes three vole delivers on H.M.K.T., FK feeds nestlings three times. Banding of the 5 nestlings is scheduled rain or shine for June 11/2023 at 8am.

From 6:21am to 7:52pm FK fed vole to the 5 nestlings twelve times and there was also one feeding of mouse and two bugs, MK and FK continue to have a strong pair bond and copulated on the door branch at 12:03pm, FK was frequently out of the nest box on the H.M.K.T. and gone from view and during these times MK was in the area and several times looking in the nest box to check on the nestlings. From 8:15pm to 9:10pm FK fed nestlings twice and in nest box settling nestlings down for the night. 9:28pm MK back on H.M.K.T. with yet another vole calling then in door and FK chatters, MK on door branch and in the door again with the vole but FK isn’t interested and MK leaves with the vole. FK on 5 nestlings.

( Interesting note, the chicks were asleep when FK was ripping at the vole but as soon as she called to the 5 nestlings they began to eat ). 5:29am MK brings a vole to door branch FK out and takes it then back in and feeds 5 nestlings. From 6:02am to 2:46pm FK fed vole to the 5 nestlings seven times, MK delivered seven voles on H.M.K.T. or on nearby tree, MK is a great food provider and was persistent with 11:53am vole delivery which took MK three attempts in the door before FK would take it, MK and FK continue to have a strong pair bond and copulated on the H.M.K.T at 7:25am and at 10:59am. From 3:07pm to 9:08pm FK fed vole to the 5 nestlings seven times, MK was again persistent with 9:01pm vole delivery which took MK three attempts in the door before FK would take it, MK gone from view and FK with 5 nestlings.

( the nestlings are growing rapidly soon they will be banded and then fledge ). From 6:35am to 7:46pm FK fed vole to 5 nestlings twelve times and one feeding with unidentified food, now that nestlings are getting bigger FK is spending more time out of nest box on various perches and at 11:38am laid down on H.M.K.T. roof which is more common for young kestrels to do, MK continues to be a great provider and persistent in finding FK to deliver voles to and at 3:42pm MK even went in the nest box with a vole looked at the nestlings but did not attempt to feed them. From 8:40pm to 9:18pm FK fed 5 nestlings two more times before settling in on them for the night, FK delivered the second vole on the H.M.K.T. and then gone from area. ( Note: FK must have went into some water today, she came into the nest box with wet feathers and was over the 5 nestlings. This we think was to cool herself and the nestlings off ).

From 8:10am to 5:27pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole fifteen times and five bugs, and at 11:01am MK made a rare appearance feeding a bug to one of the nestlings. From 6:31pm to 8:47pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole eight times and one bug. 9:01pm FK and MK both gone from view.
June 8/23 5 nestlings stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box FK and MK slept elsewhere. 5:01am FK on nearby hydro wire. 5:11am FK in with vole, feeding
time. From 5:16am to 6:13pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole fourteen times, MK gave two voles to nestlings from the door, FK in two times with a vole and left it for the nestlings, nestlings are starting to learn how to rip at voles left in the nest box for them. From 6:45pm to 9:14pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole five times. 9:15pm MK and FK both gone from view.
June 9/23 5 nestlings stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box FK and MK slept elsewhere. 4:58am FK in with vole, feeding time. 5:05am til 5:16am FK on
door branch then 5:17am on nearby hydro wire. 5:22am MK on H.M.K.T. and FK on hydro wire. 5:40am FK still on hydro wire, MK gone. 5:48am FK flies to nearby tree. 5:50 FK in with vole, one nestling grabs vole and swallows it. 5:51 FK out and gone. From 6:09am to 5:42pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole nine times and three bugs, MK drops two voles in nest box for FK to feed to nestlings, at 2:11pm FK in with vole and one nestling swallows it. From 6:52pm to 8:42pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole six times. 9:01pm FK and MK both gone from view.
June 10/23 5 nestlings stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box FK and MK slept elsewhere. 4:42an FK on nearby hydro wire till 5:12am. 5:13am MK on
nearby hydro wire, FK on KP#4. 5:24am MK on H.M.K.T. FK on KP#2 then in nest box to check out nestlings and out. 5:36am FK in with vole nestling not hungry then out with leftovers. From 6:20am to 4:34pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole eight times and seven bugs, FK in with vole and leaves for nestlings, at 10:37am FK leaves another vole for nestlings and then looks back in the box but the nestlings aren’t eating it so FK goes in and feeds it to them, at 1:07pm FK again leaves a vole for nestlings and this time nestlings rip at it and eat it, MK in box with nestlings and looks around then out and sits on door branch for 20 minutes until FK returns. From 4:42pm to 8:34pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole seven times and one bug, MK drops two voles in nest box. 9:15pm FK and MK both gone from view.
June 11/23 5 nestlings stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box FK and MK slept elsewhere.
TODAY IS BANDING DAY (3) NESTLINGS ARE 18 DAYS OLD (1) NESTLING IS 17 DAYS OLD AND (1) NESTLING IS 16 DAYS OLD.
5:15am FK in with vole, feeding time. 5:19am FK out and on nearby hydro wire. 5:48am FK in with vole, feeding time. 8:20am we are heading out to do the banding. 9:00am all 5 nestlings banded and back in the nest box. Banding went great!!! 3 females 2 males. Banding photos and video will be available at a later date, stay tuned ! From 9:23am to 8:37pm FK fed 5 nestlings thirteen voles and 2 bugs, FK in and leaves a vole for the nestlings to eat, MK in door with bug and gives it to a nestling. 9:00pm FK and MK both gone from view.

feeding time. 5:20am FK back on hydro wire. 5:41am FK in with vole, feeding time. 5:48am FK gone. 6:21am FK back on nearby hydro wire. From 6:33am to 5:01pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole eleven times and three bugs, MK in door and drops a vole in the box for FK to fed to nestlings, at 12:17pm MK went in box to check on nestlings and FK came to the door with a vole, MK trapped inside until FK moved out of the way. From 6:29pm to 9:05pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole five times and two bugs. 9:20pm FK and MK both gone from view.
June 13/23 5 banded nestlings stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box FK and MK slept elsewhere. 5:14am FK in with a tid bit then out. 5:42am FK in w/bug
the out and on KP#4. From 6:18am to 6:04pm FK fed 5 nestlings vole fourteen times and two bugs, MK on H.M.K.T. with vole when FK is in feeding nestlings and MK leaves, MK drops a vole in box and nestling eats it, FK in twice with a tid bit then out. From 6:20pm to 8:43pm MK and FK hovering over a nearby tree and diving at a Crow to get it out of the area, FK fed 5 nestlings vole three times, MK drops a vole in the box for the nestlings to eat, MK in with a vole and leaves it for the nestlings to eat. 9:00pm FK and MK both gone from view.
