March    4/23     We have installed the H.M.K.T. nest box and it's 3 cameras today.

March    5/23     We have installed the K-2 nest box and it's 2 cameras today.

March  22/23     We have seen no Kestrels in our research area at this point. Kestrel has been spotted in Bettendorf Iowa USA. Thanks Laurie !

March  27/23     Still no Kestrels in our research area. Kestrel has been spotted south of  Morden MB. about a 184 kms (114 miles) from our research area.

March  28/23     11:11am Female Kestrel (aka Lady Winnipeg) in H.M.K.T. nest box then sits on H.M.K.T. and back in H.M.K.T. nest box then flies away. 1:50pm.

 again FK. in H.M.K.T. nest box and then sits on door branch briefly.

March  29/23      FK did not stay in the H.M.K.T. nest box for the night. 8:07am FK on nearby tree. 8:17am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box then out and sits on KP#2 then

gone. 5:42pm FK on door branch looks in H.M.K.T. nest box the then back on door branch calling. 5:47 FK in and out of nest box jumping around    from branch to branch on H.M.K.T. then flies away.

March  30/23      FK did not stay in the H.M.K.T. nest box for the night. There were no Kestrel sightings today. Kestrel sighting in Dunham Quebec. Thanks Andre.

March  31/23      No Kestrels stayed in nest boxes for the night. 11:12am FK on wheel house on H.M.K.T. 11:45 am FK in and out K-2 nest box. 11:46 FK in H.M.K.T

scrapping then out on door branch. 11:53am FK in H.M.K.T .nest box then out and sits on wheel house. 11:54am FK in and out K-2 nest box then sits on wire on nearby hydro pole. 12 noon FK gone from research area. 2:50pm FK sitting on wheel house. 2:55pm FK in ans out H.M.K.T. nest box and sits on door branch then in and out of K-2 nest box and gone. 3:02 pm FK on nearby hydro wire. 3:16 FK flies slowly towards us, she is defiantly hunting. 3:18 FK is on the ground in snow then gone to nearby hydro wire at 3:35pm. 4:04pm FK in K-2 nest box calling out and sits on nearby hydro wire. 4:33pm FK in nearby tree. 7:50 pm FK on wheel house. 7:54pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box and tucking in.

.6:41am FK in door of H.M.K.T. neat box. 6:43am FK on door branch. 6:52am FK coughs up a pellet. (this means she is eating). 6:53am FK flies to wheel house. 6:54am FK gone from research area. 8:07am FK on nearby tree. 8:16am FK on nearby hydro wire. 8:19am FK flies to H.M.K.T/. nest box and in and calling then out and sits on door branch. 8:34am FK flies out of research area. 9:13am FK on nearby tree. 9:27am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling (very loudly) and bowing then out on H.M.K.T. and then another FK shows up and they both fly away. 9:31 FK in and out of K-2 nest box then sits on nearby tree she flies away for a moment 9:34 FK back on tree with a vole. FK  has been in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box several times and sitting on H.M.K.T. until 12:26pm. 12:27pm our resident Red Squirrel in K-2 nest box checking it out. FK at K-2 nest box door and traps Red Squirrel inside. FK sitting near K-2 nest box door and won't let Red Squirrel out. Red Squirrel is terrified. FK since has been sitting on several regular hunting perches. 4:18pm FK on nearby tree then gone from research area Red Squirrel still in K-2 nest box sleeping, to scared to come out, how long will Red Squirrel stay ? is Red Squirrel waiting for dark ? Only time will tell. Oh the drama of wildlife ! Correction !! just viewed the video from 9:27am that was another Female Kestrel not MK. APRIL FOOLS !!!!  6:02pm FK in and out H.M.K.T. nest box then sits on door branch. 6:13pm FK gone from area. 7:20pm FK on H.M.K.T. and door branch and then in H.M.K.T. nest box 7:24 FK tucked in for the night. 7:27pm Red Squirrel still in K-2 nest box looking out door and 7:55pm Red Squirrel finally leaves K-2 nest box, thats about 7 hours and 13 minutes the Red Squirrel was in K-2 nest box. April  02/23        FK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. 6:34am FK awake. 6:37am FK on door branch. 6:40 FK gone from area. 7:15am FK on nearby tree.

7:48am FK still on nearby tree. 8:31am FK just flew off of nearby tree and gone. 9:05am FK on nearby tree. 9:39am FK gone from research area. 9:51am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping out nest bowl then flies to nearby tree. 10:27am FK flies and lands under very near tree , she has seen a vole from an incredible distance, then flies and sits on hydro wire. 10:30am FK in and out of K-2 nest box and then on nearby tree. 10:51am Fk back in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping then out and gone from research area.11:36 FK in K-2 nest box then on K-2 tree, then flies to a nearby tree. 11:58am FK gone from area. 1:45pm FK on nearby tree. 1:55pm FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box 3 times and then proceeded to circle research area with brief stops on nearby tree and all this time calling. 2:00pm FK gone from area. 2:17 Fk sitting on hydro wire. 2:26pm FK flies to far away tree and then gone. 7:38pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping and preening, she has a dirty beak from a kill. 7:50pm FK tucked in and asleep.

April  03/23        FK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. 6:38am FK awake. 6:40am FK in door thenout on door branch. 6:47am FK now on nearby hydro wire.

6:55am FK on nearby tree. 7:34am FK gone from area. 7:56 FK on nearby tree. 8:35 FK still on same tree (good hunting there). 8:35am FK still in same tree. 8:48am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box bowing and calling then MK finally arrives (aka Mr. Manitoba) looking in door of H.M.K.T. nest box. 8:51 MK flying around with FK in pursuit (she wants a man). 10:03am FK in and out H.M.K.T. nest box and then proceeds to sit on various nearby trees. 11:16am  FK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling and bowing then sits on H.M.K.T. and then on nearby hydro wire. 11:57am FK in and out H.M.K.T. nest box then flies to nearby tree. 1:02pm Fk again in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping, and calling then on door branch and gone from research area. 2:20pm again Red Squirrel in K-2 nest box and FK traps Red Squirrel inside. 2:32pm FK on K-2 tree and then gone. 2:46pm Red Squirrel out of K-2 nest box, FK not in research area. 3:35pm FK on nearby hydro wire then flies away. 3:36pm FK on H.M.K.T. door branch sits quietly. 4:00pm Fk on nearby tree. 4:21pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling then out and sits on nearby hydro wire. 5:47pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling and out on nearby hydro wire. 5:59 pm FKin and out of H.M.K.T. nest box 2 times then sits on door branch. 6:02pm FK in and out of K-2 nest box then gone from area. 6:45 FK on nearby hydro wire 7:35pm still there. 7:36pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box preening then tucked in sleeping.

April  04/23        FK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. 6:33am FK awake and preening. 6:36am FK in door then to door branch. 6:43am FK flies and sits on

nearby hydro wire. 7:13am FK gone from research area. 7:34am FK back and in nearby tree. 7:51am FK gone from area. 8:09am FK on nearby tree. 8:12 FK in H.M.K.T. nest box then on nearby tree. From 8:13am until 9:42am FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box  2 times and sitting on several different nearby trees. From 11:04am until 11:57am FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box and perching on several locations. 12:52pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping and calling MK arrives on H.M.K.T. From 12:55pm until 3:19pm 8 copulations have occurred along with scrapping calling by both. They are also roosting near each other and MK has brought FK a vole. 5:34pm another FK shows up very brief. This goings on continues until 7:51pm. 7:52pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box tucked in. 8:12 MK looks in on FK and she is calling and bowing then MK sits on H.M.K.T. 8:15pm Mk in H.M.K.T. nest box with FK. 8:18 FK is tucked in and MK preening then tucks in. Possible snow storm tonight.

April  05/23        FK and MK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. They are covered in snow. OH lovely Winter-peg. 6:50am both are awake FK in door then sits

on H.M.K.T. under nest box MK still in H.M.K.T. nest box. 7:12am FK gone from area. 7:12 MK finally wakes up. 7:36am MK in door then at 7:36 MK is on H.M.K.T. and under nest box, still do not see FK. 7:56 all still the same. 8:42am MK still in same place no sign of FK. 9:12am MK under H.M.K.T.  nest box FK on nearby hydro wire then FK flies and joins MK underneath H.M.K.T. nest box. 9:44am Both are gone from research area. 10:10am MK in nearby tree. 10:58am MK lands on H.M.K.T. and then FK lands right near MK. 11:28am MK looks in H.M.K.T. nest box and gone from area no sign of FK. We will have to clean the snow out of the nest boxes but, not until the snow stops and MK and FK are not near. 1:38pm FK lands on H.M.K.T. with vole. 1:39 MK lands on H.M.K.T. FK keeps eating MK moves to branch behind nest box. 1:44pm FK looks in H.M.K.T. nest box and then flies away MK still on back branch. 2:08pm MK looks in H.M.K.T. nest box and then flies away. 4:00pm we went out and cleaned the snow out of the H.M.K.T. nest box and on our way back we spotted a K on a nearby tree. 5:28pm FK on nearby hydro wire 5:58pm. MK and FK on nearby tree. until 7:22pm. 7:53pm MK in H.M.K.T. nest box and FK on nearby hydro wire. 7:59 FK in H.M.K.T. nest box with MK, he starts bowing and chirping. 8:02pm both are now tucked in and sleeping.                                       

April  06/23        FK and MK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. 6:24am both are awake preening then back to sleep. 6:37am FK out and sits on nearby hydro

wire MK still sleeping. 6:55am FK still on hydro wire MK asleep. 6:59am MK awake FK still on hydro wire. 7:04am MK out of nest box and sits by FK on nearby hydro wire. 7:47am both on nearby tree. 8:03am FK in and out H.M.K.T. nest box the flies to nearby tree. 8:05 FK and MK sit on nearby tree. 8:21 both still on nearby tree. 8:31am MK in H.M.K.T. nest box chirping and scraping then out and sits on H.M.K.T. then gone. 9:20 am MK and FK sit on nearby hydro wire. 9:25am MK flies to H.M.K.T. nest box to draw crows away from FK. 10:00am both gone from research area. 11:46am MK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling then out on door branch then FK looks in then flies to KP#4 (click here to see the KP’s location) and copulation occurs. 12:40pm MK on nearby tree with a vole, FK arrives and takes vole. 12:42pm MK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling then out on door branch FK eating vole on nearby tree. 12:57pm FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box the flies out of research area. 1:21pm FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box twice then sits on door branch. 1:28 MK arrives and copulation occurs on door branch then both gone.1:44pm FK on nearby tree. FK on K-2 tree MK looks in K-2 nest box and gone then FK follows. 2:50pm both not in research area. 4:29PM FK and MK on nearby tree FK eating vole. 4:33 pm MK in H.M.K.T. nest box then out and flies away. 4:39pm MK on nearby tree with FK copulation occurs. 4:39pm FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box flies to nearby tree with MK. 4:46pm FK again in H.M.K.T. nest box then sits on door branch. 4:51pm FK again in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then sits on KP#4 MK still on nearby tree. 5:14pm FK and MK on nearby tree. 6:48pm FK still on nearby tree MK not in research area. 7:06pm MK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then on nearby tree. 7:08pm FK lands beside MK. 7:14pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scapping then out and flies to nearby tree.MK is also there. 7:21pm MK in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping then out. 7:43pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box MK still on nearby tree. 7:48 FK tucked in and MK still on tree. *;11pm MK in H.M.K.T. nest with FK. sleeping several times since FK has been gone. 6:41am MK in door. 6:46am MK out and flies to nearby hydro wire FK still on nearby tree. 6:58am MK is now by FK on nearby tree. 7:30am both still on nearby tree. 8:00am both still there. 8:15am MK gone FK still on nearby tree. 8:35am both on nearby tree. 8:58am FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then flies to nearby tree with MK. 9:38am Copulation occurs on nearby tree. 9:48am FK in and out breifly H.M.K.T. nest box then MK in chirps and out and sits on nearby tree FK gone from research area. 10:05am both are out of research area. 12:55pm MK on nearby tree with a vole.  12:58pm MK flies away with vole then in H.M.K.T. nest box and has no vole (did he store it or did FK take it from him?) 1:02pm MK and FK on nearby hydro wire. 1:06pm MK dives at Blue Jay FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping then on door branch. 1:14pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box MK in K-2 nest box the both sit on nearby hydro wire. 1:17pm MK out of area FK on nearby tree. MK and FK have not been in research area all afternoon. 6:28pm FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then on nearby tree. 6:47pm FK and MK on nearby tree. 7:05pm FK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box the flies and sits with MK on nearby tree. 7:37pm MK lands on H.M.K.T. with food FK takes food and flies to nearby tree and MK follows. 7:51pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box tucked in. 8:15pm MK on nearby tree. 8:20pm MK looks in on FK she is bowing and chirping then MK in H.M.K.T. nest box preening FK tucks in. 8:25pm MK now tucked in also.

April  08/23         FK and MK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. 6:24am both awake FK in door then on door branch then MK tucked in. 6:31am FK flies to

nearby tree MK in door. 6:32 MK flies to FK and copulation occurs then both sit on nearby tree. 7:58am both still on nearby tree. 8:12am both are gone from research area. 8:58am MK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling then on door branch FK on nearby tree. 9:01am MK flies to FK on nearby tree. 9:04am MK gone from area FK still on tree. 9:29am MK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then sits on H.M.K.T. then gone. 9:52am FK and MK on nearby tree. 10:00am MK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then on door branch FK still on nearby tree. 10:01am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scraping and calling then sits on nearby tree MK gone from area. 10:30am both sit on nearby tree. 10:34am both on H.M.K.T. 10:38 both on nearby tree. 10:53am Red Squirrel on K-2 tree looking to go into K-2 nest box. FK dives down from nearby tree and attacks. Red Squirrel continues to taunt FK but she just holds her ground. FK is on a very near tree to the K-2 nest box guarding MK now gone from area. 11:38am MK in H.M.K.T. nest box calling the out and gone FK still on near tree to K-2 nest box. 11:50am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scraping and calling then on door branch. MK flies to her and copulation occurs then both on nearby tree. 11:56am MK flies to FK and copulation occurs again then they both sit. 12:09pm MK and FK on nearby tree copulation occurs then both sit on nearby  tree. hydro wire. 6:22am MK in door. 6:25am MK flies to nearby tree then FK joins him. 6:52am FK gone from tree MK still there. 7:02am FK back on tree. 7:11am both gone from tree. 9:05am FK on nearby tree eating a vole MK in H.M.K.T. nest box then by FK. 9:15am copulation on nearby tree then MK gone from research area. 10:31am both gone from research area. 10:41am MK on nearby tree with vole, FK briefly in H.M.K.T. nest box and then takes vole from MK. 10:51am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box scrapping then on nearby tree by MK. 11:00am both chasing a crow away from research area and return to nearby tree for copulation. 11:07am MK chasing a magpie away from research area and FK stays in nearby tree. 11:33am MK in H.M.K.T. nest box and returns to nearby tree by FK. 11:49am FK in H.M.K.T. nest box and then gone from research area, MK also gone. 12:33pm MK on nearby tree, looks in H.M.K.T. nest box and gone from research area. 3:02pm MK looks in H.M.K.T. nest box, goes to nearby tree, then briefly in H.M.K.T nest box and gone from research area. April  11/23         FK stayed the night in H.M.K.T. nest box. MK slept elsewhere. 6:13am FK awake. 6:20am FK in door. 6:25am FK flies away out of research area. 

7:10am MK in and out of H.M.K.T. nest box then sits with FK on nearby hydro wire. 7:16am MK on nearby tree and FK still on hydro wire. 7:23am FK gone from research area. 7:37am MK gone from research area. 7:46am MK briefly in H.M.K.T. nest box then to nearby tree with FK for copulation. 8:10am FK dives at Red Squirrel on tree near K-2 nest box, flies to H.M.K.T. DB and back to MK on nearby tree. 8:13am Red Squirrel briefly in K-2 nest box. 8:29am MK looks in H.M.K.T nest box and back to FK on nearby tree. 8:35am MK gone from research area. 9:20am FK still on nearby tree. 9:39am FK and MK on nearby tree. 9:59am FK gone MK still on nearby tree. 10:11am FK and MK now on nearby tree. 10:47am MK gone FK still on nearby tree. Between 4:38pm and 6:25pm FK sat on various perches in research area. 6:27pm MK delivers a vole to FK and both on nearby tree. 7:27pm MK and FK still on nearby tree and copulate. 7:35pm FK briefly in H.M.K.T. nest box and back on nearby tree by MK. 7:56pm MK in H.M.K.T. nest box, FK still on nearby tree. 8:08pm FK in H.M.K.T. nest box with MK, both chirping and preening. 8:18pm FK and MK both tucked in.
